Australia Post informs that its daily operations are being affected by government measures aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19. These measures, which include lockdowns, state border closures, restrictions on movement, self-isolation and limitations on air and other transport services, are affecting the processing and delivery of inbound and outbound mail items.

At present, there are border closures and lockdowns in place across the country, including strict lockdowns in two major states, Victoria and New South Wales, where the processing and delivery of mail items is being significantly impacted.

COVID-19 outbreak disrupts flight operations: more than 65 percent of flights at the Nanjing Lukou International Airport, in Jiangsu, China, were canceled due to a COVID-19 outbreak among airport workers. According to sources, about 17 airport workers have tested positive for COVID-19 as of July 21, and some others are waiting for further diagnosis.

The airport has carried out disinfection work inside its Terminal 2, which mainly handles international operations, and started emergency testing for more than 15,000 staff members on the night of July 20.

Heavy rainfall continues to disrupt operations: heavy rainfall has led to severe flooding in China’s central province of Henan, in particular Zhengzhou city. Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport has issued a red warning which indicates large-scale flight delays. As of July 21, 660 inbound and outbound flights have either been canceled or delayed.

Further delays and cancellations are expected as heavy rain is expected to persist until July 24.

The designated operator of Germany, Deutsche Post AG, would like to inform that exceptionally heavy rain has caused extreme flooding, mainly in the west of the country. This has led to destruction, disruption or closure of regional and national roads, including motorways. Deutsche Post infrastructure has likewise suffered damage.

Consequently, postal services in large areas of western Germany are currently interrupted. The postcode areas most severely affected are 42XXX, 44XXX, 45XXX, 50XXX, 52XXX, 53XXX, 54XXX, 56XXX, 58XXX and 95XXX.

Inbound and outbound international services are in general operating as normal, but exchanges of dispatches by road with neighbouring countries to the west of Germany may be affected by road closures.
 

 

Portugal

Strike causes flight cancellations in Lisbon: airport baggage handlers and ground crews from Groundforce Portugal have carried out a walkout in Lisbon's Portela Airport on July 17 and 18.

The strike led to major disruptions to airport operations, forcing 300 flights in and out of Lisbon to be canceled.

Flash flooding causes disruptions in Kiev: severe rainfall and associated flooding have led to disruptions in Kiev on July 19, including areas such as Vynohradar, Nyvky and Shulyavka.

Numerous roads have been damaged, and thus, closed for traffic. Further heavy rainfall and thunderstorms have been forecasted for July 20, which may worsen the situation.

Hazy conditions are causing flight cancellations at Denver International Airport: it has been reported that nearly 1,000 flights were delayed and at least 10 flights were canceled at the Denver International Airport on July 19 and July 20 due to poor visibility caused by two wildfires burning in northwestern Colorado.

Further delays should be anticipated until the wildfires are under control.
