Flooding disrupts ground transportation in Amazonas state: it has been reported that severe flooding has disrupted ground transportation in the Amazonas State in northwestern Brazil. 52 municipalities in the state faced disruptions, including Manaus, Parintins, Manacapuru, and Carreiro da Varzea, as the Amazon, Solimoes, and Negro rivers exceeded severe flood levels.

Further disruptions due to inclement weather should be expected in the area.


India

It has been reported that flooding caused by the passage of Tropical Cyclone Yaas has affected ground transportation in southern and eastern West Bengal and Odisha. Some of the most impacted districts include Purba Medinipur, Ramnagar, South 24 Parganas, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Keonjhar.

Further disruptions due to inclement weather should be expected in the area.

The designated operator of Mali, La Poste du Mali, wishes to inform that the further five-day general strike called by the National Workers’ Union of Mali (UNTM) from Monday, 24 May 2021, which affected the entire country, was suspended on 25 May 2021.

 

Consequently, from 26 May 2021, postal services for inbound and outbound items (letters, parcels and EMS) have resumed as normal throughout the country.

Sri Lanka

The designated operator of Sri Lanka, the Department of Posts, wishes to inform that, owing to rapid spread of COVID-19, strict island-wide travel restrictions have been imposed by the government with immediate effect and until 7 June 2021. Delivery of all inbound mail will be suspended during this period.

The country’s international airports remain open to cargo flights, and all inbound mail will be transported to the Colombo office of exchange under special arrangements, but processing and delivery will be temporarily suspended, and outbound mail transport will also be impacted until 7 June.

 

Thailand

The designated operator of Thailand, Thailand Post, would like to inform that cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed among operating staff handling inbound letter-post items at the Laksi mail processing centre.

 

Quarantine and other public health measures have been implemented at the Laksi mail processing centre, resulting in a reduction in the workforce. Delays are therefore to be expected in the processing, customs clearance and delivery of all inbound letter-post services destined for Thailand. 

 

Thailand Post would also like to indicate that the backlog resulting from the temporary closure of the Suvarnabhumi office of exchange has been cleared and operations at the OE have returned to normal.

Flooding causes traffic disruption in Houston: it has been indicated that flooding following heavy rainfall caused significant road traffic disruptions in the Houston, Texas area. The flooding also caused Highway 288 to be closed in both directions during the afternoon of May 24. It is unclear when the flooding will recede.
